Ideas for Jungle Vines

    Paper Bag

    • Make inexpensive jungle vines using brown paper grocery bags. Tear along the seams of the bag until it lays completely flat. Cut it lengthwise into three long strips. Twist the strips until they form thin strands. Attempt to get as much of the inside of the bag exposed as possible so the text is not visible. Use clear packaging tape to attach the strips together. Cut leaves from green cardstock and attach them to your makeshift vines. Hang your creation from the ceiling, walls or doors.

    Craft Paper

    • Use large pieces of construction paper to make thin vines that will not weigh down light fixtures. Purchase a roll of brown craft paper. Unroll the paper and use an iron to keep the paper flat. Cut it into one-inch-wide strips lengthwise. Fold it in half twice to form an even thinner strip. Twist the modified strips around your finger to add texture. Sew the strips together to make one long vine. Make leaves from green fabric straps or felt. Cut out the leaves in various sizes. Cover the fabric with a clear coat of varnish to make them shine. Sew the leaves to the vine and drape it over a chandelier or refreshment table.

    Pipe Cleaners

    • Use pipe cleaners to make smaller vines for party favors or dioramas. Gather a couple of dark green or brown pipe cleaners. Cut green crepe paper into the shapes of leaves. Either skewer or hot glue the leaves onto the pipe cleaner. For a longer vine, twist the ends of two pipe cleaners together tightly. For party favors, wrap the vine around a pencil. Place the pencil into a paper bag with a jungle animal printed on the outside. Fill the bag with candy or other jungle crafts. For a diorama, hot glue the ends of the vine to the inside of your box or to fake trees skewered into a polystyrene board.

    Metal Wire

    • Metal wire is another useful material for making vines. Cut the metal wire into the length you need for one continuous strip. Fold the ends of the metal wire into the rest of the wire to prevent injury. Wrap the entire length of wire in green florist's tape for a plant-like finish. Cut small two-inch strips of wire and wrap felt around them to make leaves. Leave a small amount of wire uncovered. Press the leftover wire to the vine, wrap it in florist's tape to disguise the seam and attach the leaf to the vine. Use the wire vines when making a diorama for a realistic appearance.
