How to Make a Chili Pepper Swag

Add the Greenery to the Frame and Complete the Swag

  • 1). Cut long-lasting foliage from your garden in various lengths. Some types to consider are oak, boxwood, Indian hawthorn, cushion bush or asparagus fern.

  • 2). Place the longest piece of foliage on the frame with the growth tip pointed down.

  • 3). Place another piece on top of the first, but with the growth tip facing up.

  • 4). Wire the two pieces to the frame with floral or craft wire.

  • 5). Add more greenery, this time facing east and west on the frame. Continue adding and wiring foliage until the frame is no longer visible. The growth tips on the cuttings should all face the outside edge of the frame, so that the final effect is that of a sunburst.

  • 6). Pierce the stem ends of red chili peppers with floral wire. You should have enough wire to easily attach the chili peppers to the greenery. Use the chilies to cover the cut ends of the foliage and hide any stems.

  • 7). Attach a wire loop to the back of the frame so you can hang your swag.
