How to Create a Customized Bedspread

    • 1). Wash and press the sheets and the blanket. Lay the sheets with right sides together. Place the blanket on top so that it is two inches from the edge of the sheets on one side. Pin every three inches all over the blanket, through all three layers, with safety pins. This will hold the layers together for sewing and cutting.

    • 2). Trim so that the blankets and sheets are the same size on three sides. Do not trim the side where you left two inches of hem when pinning.

    • 3). Sew along the three trimmed edges. Cut a diagonal corner off each end of the two-inch sheet hem on the fourth side. Press open the seam allowances.

    • 4). Remove all the safety pins. Turn the bedspread right-side out, so that the right sides of the sheets are showing and the blanket is between them. Turn under the two-inch hem on the open edge and hand-sew it closed.

    • 5). Flatten the quilt on the floor and use safety pins at four-inch intervals around the edges, catching all three layers. This will help hold the blanket in place during tying.

    • 6). Tie-quilt your bedspread. Thread yarn on the large-eye needle. Take a small stitch through all three layers. Cut the yarn so that both free ends are on one side and are each about two inches long. Tie the ends in a square knot and trim the ends to about 1/2 inch. Repeat all over the surface of the quilt at three-inch intervals. Make sure that the needle goes all the way through all the layers and that the ties are all on one side of the bedspread.
