How to Update Java in Vista

    • 1). Click the "New updates are ready for download" bubble next to the clock on the system tray if you are prompted of a new Java update. This launches the Java update wizard.

    • 2). Click the "Download" button on the Java update wizard. A balloon appears to show the download progress. When the download process completes, click the "New updates are ready to install" balloon that pops ups on the system tray, then click "Install" in the "Ready to install" dialog box. The installation wizard installs the Java updates. When the process completes, click "Finish."

    • 3). Click the Windows "Start" button, click "Control Panel" and click "Java" to launch the Java control panel if you want to configure Java to update automatically. Click the "Update" tab, and then place a check on the "Check for updates automatically" check box. Select the new updates notification setting that you want to use in the "Notify" box, then click the "Advanced" button.

    • 4). Select the frequency with which you want Java to search for and install updates. You can select from options such as daily, weekly or monthly. Select the date and time to install new updates, then click "OK" to save the changes. The Java Update scheduler checks for updates at the scheduled frequency and notifies you.
