How to Hook Up a KAC-7201 Kenwood Amplifier

    • 1). Raise the hood. Loosen the bolts on the battery cables with a wrench. Remove the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal and set it aside. Lift the positive battery cable clamp from the positive battery terminal and place the ring terminal from the amplifier wiring kit onto the positive battery terminal. Place the positive battery cable clamp onto the positive battery terminal on top of the ring terminal. Tighten the positive battery cable clamp onto the battery terminal with the wrench.

    • 2). Plug the amplifier wiring kit's power cable into the ring terminal. Remove the fuse from the ring terminal fuse holder. Route the power cable through the firewall of the vehicle and into the inside cabin.

    • 3). Remove the vehicle's stock stereo. Disconnect the plastic stereo wiring binders from the back of the head unit. Connect the vehicle's stereo wiring binders to the wiring harness adapter. Insert the wiring harness adapter leads into the corresponding outlets on the back of the stereo. Plug the patch cables into the wiring harness adapter leads. Route the patch cables through the back of the stereo dock. Refer to a repair manual specific to your vehicle's model-year for instructions on how to remove and install the stereo and route the cabling to the rear cargo area of the vehicle.

    • 4). Route the patch cables to the rear cargo area of the car. Route the power cable from the driver's side footwell to the designated mounting location for the Kenwood amp. Plug the power cable into the power input on the KAC-7201's left panel of outlets. Plug the patch cables into the signal input on the amp's right side panel.

    • 5). Connect the grounding wire from the grounding point on the Kenwood (next to the power input) to a screw or bolt near the amp. A bolt less than 20 inches from the amplifier, directly connected to the vehicle's frame, will serve as a proper grounding source.

    • 6). Replace the negative battery cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal and tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench. Replace the fuse into the ring terminal's fuse holder. Close the hood.
