Everything You Need To Know About Earth Friendly Products Spray Starch

About.com Rating

Whether you like to iron or detest it, most of us can agree that a nicely pressed garment is always a plus to our appearance. Even clothes that claim to be permanent-press or no-iron can benefit from a quick touch-up to seams, collars and cuffs.

Earth Friendly Products offers a non-aerosol spray starch to join the liquid and aerosol spray products available on market laundry shelves.

Earth Friendly Products Spray Starch

Many aerosol products have been found to contain propellents that are harmful to the environment.

Earth Friendly Products offers their spray starch in a recyclable spray bottle. The starch helps provide a crisp finish to ironed fabrics. The starch also leaves a bit of coating on fabric fibers that helps to repel dirt and stains and helps to control static cling.

The product is safe to use with all washable fabrics and with all ironing temperatures.

Product Ingredients:
  • Water
  • Sodium Carboxymethyl Starch (plant-derived starch)
  • Sodium Coco-Sulfate (coconut-based surfactant)
  • Cocamidopropylamine Oxide (coconut-based surfactant)
  • Phenoxyethanol (preservative)
  • Natural Fragrance
  • Methylsiothiazolinone (preservative)

The product contains 22 fluid ounces and retails for around $4.50 and is available online and in selected retail stores.. The starch is available in bulk sizes for refill through the Earth Friendly Products ProLine.

This spray starch is made in the United States and was never tested on animals and contains no animal products.

About Laundry Product Recommendations

I gave Earth Friendly Products Spray Starch a test on several different fabrics to see the final results. The first test was on a polyester/cotton blend tablecloth. The cloth claimed to be permanent press but I did not like the way the hem looked and there were some subtle wrinkles across the fabric. It just wasn't crisp.

I followed the directions to shake the product well and applied it evenly to the fabric. The directions suggest waiting 30 seconds to allow the starch to penetrate the fibers before ironing. After pressing with medium high heat, my tablecloth looked much more crisp and professional. I did a quick test and found that liquid (water) did bead up for about 60 seconds before being absorbed which would help dramatically with clean up of other liquid spills.

My next test was on a 100 percent cotton shirt. Again the spray went on smoothly and left the shirt looking smooth and smelling fresh - just a hint of scent. It did not leave the shirt as "stiff" as I wanted like those from the professional laundry. So, on a second shirt, I sprayed more heavily and achieved the desired results.

I would recommend that Earth Friendly Products Spray Starch find a spot on your laundry shelf. You will find it will help you make a well-pressed appearance.
