- 1). Cut the fabric on the bias (diagonally). Do this by using a ruler with a 45-degree angle marking or by folding the fabric so that the cut edge is even with the selvedge edge (the woven edge).
- 2). Mark parallel lines 2 inches apart, starting with the ruler line or the folded edge. Cut on lines with scissors or rotary cutter.
- 3). Join the bias strips with 1/4-inch seams, holding the strips at right angles to each other. Sewing slanted seams will prevent bumps from the seam allowances. Press these seams open.
- 4). Lay the cord on the bias strip. Fold the fabric over the cord matching raw edges.
- 5). Use a sewing machine with a zipper foot to baste through the two layers of fabric next to the cord.
