How to Finish a Cork Floor

    • 1). Decide between a polyurethane or wax finish. Polyurethane finishes can last up to seven years without needing refinishing; however, they are easily scratched. Wax finishes can be re-waxed easily on high trafficked areas, but they have to be reapplied every 6 to 12 months.

    • 2). Sand any uneven areas of your flooring with a no. 80 mesh disc sander. Use a leveler to determine what areas need sanding or lay on the ground to help you decide.

    • 3). Clean the sand off with a damp mop. Apply your finish of choice in sections. Use a lamb's wool applicator and spread the finish in a think layer across the floor.

    • 4). Move your applicator in single strokes to achieve an even layer. Avoid allowing your finish to puddle.

    • 5). Reapply another layer of finish if you are working with polyurethane finish. You may have to apply up to four coats of polyurethane finish to achieve the shine you want.
