- 1). Cut a piece of wire 2 1/2 inches long with the wire cutters. Hammer approximately the last one-eight inch of the wire flat with a small hammer.
- 2). Grasp one flattened end of the wire with the tip of the round-nose pliers and rotate your wrist towards the center of the wire, creating a small loop at the end of the wire. Repeat to make a small loop at the other end of the wire. The small loops should be going in the opposite directions, like an elongated "S" shape.
- 3). Grasp one end of the wire with the round-nose pliers right behind the small loop, with the wire at the back of the jaws of the pliers and the small end loop facing up. Rotate your wrist towards the center of the clasp until the small circle almost rests on the straight wire.
- 4). Grasp the other end of the wire in the same fashion, again right behind the small loop at the end of the wire with the loop facing up. Repeat the process of rotating your wrist towards the center of the wire. The resulting clasp should be an "S" shape.
- 5). Use the small hammer to flatten the outside curves of the S clasp, if desired, which adds interest to the piece.
- 6). Slip one end of the clasp through a jump ring attached to the end of a necklace or bracelet, closing the "S" loop toward the center of the clasp, keeping the clasp from sliding off. Leave the other end of the "S" slightly open and slide it through a jump ring attached to the other end of the jewelry.
