- 1). Find all the studs in the outside wall, using your electronic stud-finder to locate them. Put pencil marks at the mid-way point between every pair of studs, 4 to 6 inches down from the ceiling.
- 2). Use your drill and hole saw bit to cut holes at each mark. Save the cutout circles of drywall.
- 3). Fill the cellulose insulation blower with loose insulation. Thread the hose of the blower through one of the holes. Feed it all the way in, until the end is at the bottom of the inside of the wall.
- 4). Turn on the blower. Lift the hose gradually inside the wall as the space between the two studs fills with loose insulation. Continue until insulation has filled the cavity completely and is starting to come out the hole. Turn off the machine and pull the hose clear.
- 5). Repeat the process in each wall cavity between the studs.
- 6). Put a circular cutout (extracted from the wall earlier) into one of the holes, closing it. Lay drywall tape over the entire hole. Use a drywall knife to spread joint compound over the tape. Do the same thing for each hole.
- 7). Allow the compound to set for 8 hours. Sand it by hand, just enough to smooth it out. Spread on a second coat of compound. Let it dry, sand it, and apply a third coat. Let it dry and sand it. The wall is ready for repainting.
