- 1). Cut out 24 squares from your loved one's clothing using scissors. Cut each square to measure 12 inches on all sides.
- 2). Place two of the squares together, with the right sides together, and line up one of the edges. Pin along the lined-up edge, leaving a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Repeat the process to pin together 12 sets of two squares.
- 3). Sew along the pinned edges using quilting thread and a quilting needle, then remove all of the straight pins. This will create 12 pairs of doubled squares.
- 4). Place two pairs of squares together, and line up one of the shorter edges. Pin the lined up edges, then sew the edges together. Remove the straight pins. Repeat to create six sets of four squares.
- 5). Place two sets of four squares together, and line up one of the longer edges. Pin the lined up edges, then sew the edges together. Remove the straight pins. Repeat to sew all of the sets together into a sheet. This will be the front of the quilt.
- 6). Repeat the entire process to create a second sheet of squares. This will be the back of the quilt.
- 7). Place the front and back sheets with their right sides together, and pin around three of the edges. Leave a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Sew around the three edges, then remove the straight pins. Turn the form right-side out.
- 8). Cut a rectangle from a roll of cotton batting to measure 4 feet wide and 6 feet long. Insert the batting rectangle in between the layers of quilting. Turn down the unsewn edge by 1/4 inch, and pin it using straight pins. Sew the pinned edge, and remove the straight pins.
- 9). Trim off any excess quilting thread before using the quilt made out of your loved one's clothing.
