- Animals and insects are often used as inspiration for face paint designs. You could get a tiger, lion, dog, pig and even a rabbit design painted on your face. These designs often include whiskers and noses painted in black along with ears and teeth that make the design look more animal-like. Along those same lines, insects are often used for face paint designs. Butterflies, bees and ladybugs with antennae and wings are common face paint designs.
- Cartoon characters are usually bright and colorful and are good subjects for face paint designs. Characters such as Sponge Bob, Mickey Mouse or Strawberry Shortcake can be used to create richly colored face designs.
- Sports fans often paint their faces to show pride for their favorite team. Some will paint team logos or other designs on their faces using the team colors. Checker and stripe patterns or a picture of the team mascot could be used as a sports themed face paint design. You could also paint a baseball, soccer ball, hockey stick or other sport paraphernalia on your face.
- Images of scary creatures could be used for face paintings. Zombies, mummies, werewolves and other creatures are all ideas for a scary themed face painting design. You could even use scary clown paintings. Usually scary images use shades of gray, black, white and red paints to create the design.
- Face paint is often used in the military when soldiers are attempting to hide themselves during combat. Military designs are sometimes used as a part of a soldier costume and usually include camouflage patterns that use greens, browns and black to create the design.
