How to Put Your Laptop Into Automatic Hibernate Mode When Running Windows Vista

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button, select the search box, and type "cmd" (without quotation marks). When the "cmd" option appears in the list of results, right-click the item and select "Run as administrator." If prompted to confirm your choice, click "Continue" or provide your administrator user name and password and click "OK."

    • 2). Type the following command and press the "Enter" key to enable Hibernate mode:

      powercfg /hibernate on

    • 3). Click the Windows "Start" button, select the search box, and type "power" (without quotation marks). Click the "Power Options" item when it appears in the list of results.

    • 4). Click the "Change plan settings" link found below the name of your selected power plan.

    • 5). Click "Change advanced power settings."

    • 6). Double-click the "Sleep" item, and then double-click the "Hibernate after" item.

    • 7). Click "On battery" and set the "Minutes" value to specify when you want Hibernate mode to start while the laptop is running on battery power.

    • 8). Click "Plugged in" and set the "Minutes" value to specify when you want Hibernate mode to start while the laptop is plugged into a power source.

    • 9). Click "OK" to confirm the changes.
