- 1). Position your chosen earring beads on your beading mat, which will keep the beads from rolling once placed in a specific order. You can look through fashion magazines and your local mall for beading pattern ideas and inspiration.
- 2). Choose your earring's findings, which is the term used when describing the components used to make the earrings or other jewelry-related items. Choose complementary tones to coordinate with your selected bead pattern. For example, to make dangling earrings, incorporate eyepins, which have a loophole at the end to dangle drop beads or headpins, which resemble nails. The flat head prevents the beads from sliding off the pin.
You will also need to select ear posts, which are straight pieces of wire that fit into your pierced ear. You can also opt to use shaped ear wires. You will also need ear nuts, which are inserted at the back of the ear posts to secure the earrings in place. - 3). Thread the beads into your eyepin or headpin. The beads will hold in place by the pin's end loop or flat head. Keep sliding the beads according to your design.
- 4). Cut the excess wire at the top of the last bead with your wire cutters. It is important to leave enough wire to form a loop at the top of the bead.
- 5). Hold your dangling earring in one hand. Take your round nose pliers and grip the wire at the top of the earring base. Shape the wire with your pliers to form a loop at the top of the bead. Do not close the loop.
- 6). Slide the earring post or ear wire onto the open loop. Earring posts and wires have an attached loop at the end, which is used for connecting pieces together.
- 7). Close the open loop with your pliers to secure the earring post or wire. Slide the post into your pierced ear and secure your new earrings with your ear nut.
