- 1). Download the Security Essentials antivirus tool from Microsoft (see Resources) by clicking "Download Now" at the site and then clicking the "Save" button when the dialog prompt appears. Click the "Next" button and send the downloaded file to a location on your computer.
- 2). Double-click the antivirus file and confirm your operating system by selecting the Windows system that you are currently using in your computer. Click "Yes" and "Next" after reading the product agreement.
- 3). Click "Validate" to ensure that your version of Windows is legal and legitimate. The tool will install and run updates. Don't interrupt this process and proceed only when it is finished.
- 4). Click the "Home" tab. After this, you must choose your virus scanning preference. If you want a thorough scan of all of your files, folders and programs, click "Full." To start the "Full Scan," click the "Scan" button. Click the "Clean Computer" button to remove the virus problem from your computer.
- 1). Go to the Microsoft Download Center (see Resources) and click "Run." Read over the Microsoft product clause and if you agree to it, click "I Agree."
- 2). Select your scan preference by clicking "Full Scan." Unlike "Quick Scan," "Full Scan" searches all files, folders, components and applications for malicious software. To start the "Full Scan," click "Next."
- 3). View the viruses detected by the tool by clicking the "View detailed results of the scan" link after the scan is finished. Click the "Finish" button to expel the virus and disinfect your computer.
- 1). Go to the Avast! download website (see Resources) and click "Download." Install the software by following the installation instructions.
- 2). Run Avast! by double-clicking its desktop icon. Choose the "On" option, which is found under the "Scan local hard drives" category.
- 3). Select the "Thorough Scan" option as your scan preference. "Thorough Scan" scans all files, folders, components and applications on your computer for viruses. Click "Play" to begin the scan.
- 4). Click "Delete" to remove the virus from your computer system.
