Pick an Age

• Start by picking a dinosaur age from which you want to choose your dinosaur or dinosaurs. There are many periods, and different dinosaurs existed in each period. For example, the Jurassic period included pterosaurs, which were flying reptiles. This step is most useful if your dinosaur project is going to feature more than one dinosaur. For example, if you are making a display of dinosaurs for a museum or for a dinosaur park, you should make sure you create statues that accurately display each age you are re-creating.
  
  

Choose Your Dinosaurs

• Look through a dinosaur species book or an online source to find dinosaurs for each age you are re-creating. Modify this step depending on your purpose for creating a statue. If you are creating a single statue for your own amusement, you can simply pick any dinosaur that you want. Pick a dinosaur that has a distinctive look and that, based on your artistic abilities, you will be capable of making. Choose a wide range of dinosaurs if you are making multiple statues. Pick between carnivorous species like the Tyrannosaurus rex and herbivores like the Stegosaurus.
  
  

Poses

• Pick a series of appropriate poses for your dinosaurs. Making a single dinosaur statue gives you the freedom to create whatever pose you like. For example, you can create an action pose, such as running, or a simple standing position. Multiple dinosaurs require multiple poses. Try to make your dinosaurs interact in ways that are appropriate for your project. Bend your Brontosaurus' neck down to graze on grass or have it standing off against a large predator such as a Tyrannosaurus rex. Sculpt objects for the dinosaurs to interact with, such as trees, hills or even volcanoes.
  
  

Statue Making Process

• Choose a medium you are comfortable using to make your statue. Clay is a cheap, easy-to-use format. Start by drawing your statue on a piece of paper. Plan out its shape, its size and its proportions. Use pictures of your dinosaurs to use as a guide in creating your statue. Mold your statue in your medium using the necessary tools. For example, you can use your hands and knives to make clay statues. However, making a statue of marble or stone will require sculpting tools, such as hammers and chisels. Take breaks to examine your dinosaur. Make any changes you deem necessary. Create all of your dinosaurs using this method. Paint or color them if you desire.
