How to Access a Linux Partition Through Windows XP

    Ext2 Installable File System for Windows

    • 1). Download Ext2 Installable File System for Windows installer (see "Resources").

    • 2). Double-click on the "Ext2IFS_1_11a.exe" file to start the installation wizard.

    • 3). Check the "Enable read-only access" option if you do not want to be able to write to the Linux partition.

    • 4). Ensure the "Enable UTF-8" checkbox is selected. Most modern Linux distributions use the UTF-8 encoding.

    • 5). Check the "Enable large file feature" check box if you have files that are larger than two gigabytes.

    • 6). Choose the letter that you want to use for your Linux partition.

    • 7). Choose the "My Computer" option under the "Start" menu.

    • 8). Double-click on the drive letter assigned to the Linux partition to access the files.

    Explore2fs

    • 1). Download the explore2fs-1.07.zip file from the Chrysocome website (see "Resources").

    • 2). Navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded file.

    • 3). Double-click on the "explore2fs-1.07.zip" file to extract the files contained within the archive.

    • 4). Double-click on the "explore2fs.exe" to access the Linux partition. The Linux partition will not be assigned a drive letter. You can only access it by clicking on the "explore2fs.exe" file.

    DiskInternals Linux Reader

    • 1). Download and install DiskInternals Linux Reader (see "Resources").

    • 2). Double-click on the "Linux Reader" option under the "Start" menu.

    • 3). Browse the Linux partition using the Linux Reader file manager.

    • 4). Right-click any file and choose the "Save" option to transfer the file to the Windows partition.
