How to Remove a Power Steering Pump From a 1999 Suburban

    • 1). Lift up the front of the SUV using the jack and put the frame on the jack stands to support the Suburban. Place a drain pan underneath the power-steering pump on the lower driver's side of the engine.

    • 2). Remove the hoses on the back side of the power-steering pump using a line wrench. Allow the fluid to drain into the drain pan. Pop the hood. Locate the tensioner on the center of the front side of the engine. Turn the tensioner counterclockwise using the breaker bar and a socket, then pull the belt off the power-steering pulley.

    • 3). Unbolt the power-steering pump from the engine block using the ratchet and socket. Carefully lower it from the engine bay using both hands.
