Foam Ball Crafts

    Blow Fish

    • The foam ball is used as the body for a blow fish. The exterior of the foam ball is covered with paper mache. The lips, fins and eyeballs are made from paper mache and attached to the foam ball. The paper mache is then painted. Bright, wild colors with interesting pattern gives the blow fish personality. A small screw eye can be inserted in the top of the blow fish to use for hanging. Fishing line works well for the hanger. Googly eyes can be used instead of paper mache to give the blow fish a very funny appearance.

    Scarab Beetle

    • A scarabe beetle can be created from a foam ball using sequins and stick pins. The entire surface of the foam ball is overlapped with colored sequins. The belly of the scarab beetle is a lighter color than the top wings. Different colored sequins can be used to create the outside lines of the wings, face and mouth. Large fluffy pipe cleaners are inserted into the ball to create the legs. Large plastic, faceted, round beads are attached to the foam ball using stick pins to create the eyes.

    Bumble Bee

    • A bumble bee uses a foam ball as the body. Using a yellow foam ball eliminates painting the yellow part of the bumble bee. Paint black stripes onto the yellow ball. A bumble bee has a black head and black tail. The bumble bee has a yellow head and yellow tail with the black stripe in the middle. Make the legs from fuzzy black pipe cleaners and attached to the foam ball by poking them into the sides. Each wing is created by bending a yellow pipe cleaner into the shape of a wing. The ends of the wing are poked into the bumble bee's body. The antennae of the bumble bee are created with black pipe cleaners and poked into the top of the head section. Use black plastic faceted beads for the eyes. Attach the eyes with stick pins.

A separate foam ball can be used as the head. Attach the head to the body by poking a popsicle or craft stick into the head half way. The other have is stuck into the body. Hot glue helps to hold the two balls together.
