- 1). Wipe away large spills with a soft rag or paper towel. Mist a liquid degreasing cleaner over the surface of the stove. Allow it to set for a few minutes and wipe away the moisture. Build-up on the stove top can prevent the stove from operating as intended.
- 2). Moisten a cleaning eraser and scrub the top of the stove. A cleaning eraser will remove cooked-on stains and black marks from pans. The eraser is safe to use on flattop stoves because it is not an abrasive cleaner that will scratch the surface.
- 3). Rinse the stove top with hot water. Dry the stove top and buff it using a soft, lint-free cloth. Buff the stove top in wide circles until all the streaks are gone.
- 1). Place a pan on the burner and turn it on. Flattop stove burners may not heat up until the pan is placed on them. Use pots and pans that are truly flat on the bottom. Cookware that has ridges will scratch the surface of the flattop stove.
- 2). Pick up pans and reposition them. Scooting or swirling the cookware will mark the surface of the stove.
- 3). Place a heat diffuser on the burner to cushion heavy cookware. The danger of using cast iron cookware on a flattop stove is the weight of the cookware itself. Heavy pans flopped onto the stove top can cause stress cracks. Using a heat diffuser cushions the stove top and spreads the heat evenly throughout the bottom of the pans, reducing hot spots.
