- 1). Choose a pattern for sewing a purse made from fabric. If you don't have a pattern, you can create a simple pattern by cutting a rectangular piece of fabric double the size of the final dimensions of the purse. For example, if the purse will be 2 feet wide by 1 foot long, then cut a piece of fabric that will be 2 feet wide by 2 feet long. When folded in half, it can be sewn together to make a purse.
- 2). Choose white or off-white fabric. You will be adding photographs to the fabric through heat transfer. If you choose a colored fabric, it will discolor the pictures you add.
- 3). Convert the photographs to .JGP images and upload onto your computer. Remember that larger images will produce clearer photographs when printed.
- 4). Print out the images onto photo transfer paper. This paper can be purchased at most office supply stores, and is often used when making custom T-shirts. The paper will fit into your printer tray, and you will typically print off on the rough side of the paper. Size your images to be the size you want when on the purse.
- 5). Cut out the fabric for your purse's body.
- 6). Iron the images onto the right side of the fabric. Follow the instructions included with the iron transfer paper you purchase. You will be arranging the position of the images as you place them on the fabric, just like you would arrange the order in a scrapbook.
- 7). Sew the purse together. Complete the purse by sewing up the sides, or following the directions of the pattern you have chosen. If you don't have a pattern, you can hem the purse's opening, sew on an arm strap and add Velcro to secure the purse closed. Add embellishments, such as buttons, bangles or rivets.
