- 1). Disconnect any extra devices currently connected to your computer, such as USB hard drives or printers. Place the Windows XP Professional installation disc in your computer's drive.
- 2). Open the "Start" menu and choose "Shut Down" and "Restart." Hit the space bar or another key when the "Press any key" prompt appears to boot from the installation disc.
- 3). Press "Enter" and tap "F8." Press "Enter" again and navigate to the "Format using NTFS" option. Tap "Enter" to confirm your choice.
- 4). Click "Next" and type the name and organization title you want associated with your computer in the corresponding text boxes. Select "Next" and type the CD key found on the installation disc's manual in the text boxes.
- 5). Choose "Next" and follow the prompts to set up your computer's date and time options. Click "Next" and use the on-screen prompts to choose your Internet connection and network options.
- 6). Click the radio button labeled "Yes, activate Windows over the Internet right now" and choose "Next." Choose "Finish" to complete the process of updating your computer to the Windows XP Professional operating system.
