- 1). Place a dry towel over the wet spot on the carpet. Blot up excess moisture. If the first towel becomes saturated, switch to another towel. Repeat this process until the carpet is completely dry. If the pet stain on the carpet is no longer wet, begin with step 2.
- 2). Stir together 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar with 1 cup warm water. Saturate the pet stain with the mixture and allow it to soak into the carpet and padding for five minutes. The vinegar will beak down the urine and kill the bacteria to help take off the odor.
- 3). Scrub the stained carpet using a clean sponge or dishrag. This step is optional, but applying pressure to the pet stain will further break it down and make it easier to lift from the carpet.
- 4). Lay a dry towel over the vinegar-saturated carpet. Blot with the towel, rotating as necessary to remove as much excess moisture as possible.
- 1). Sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda over the wet pet stains on carpet. Baking soda gained notoriety for its absorbency, as well as its ability to eliminate unpleasant odors. Allow the baking soda to sit on the carpet uninterrupted for roughly 15 minutes.
- 2). Pour 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp. of liquid dish-washing soap into a bowl. Stir the ingredients gently until thoroughly combined.
- 3). Apply the mixture to the carpet. Using gloved hands or a sponge, scrub the stain to force the mixture into the carpet fibers.
- 4). Vacuum the stained area when the cleaning ingredients and carpet have dried completely. Because the baking soda can fall deep into carpet and will probably clump, it might be necessary to vacuum the spot multiple times.
