- 1). Move items away from the floor and place on bookshelves or hang on the walls. Anything that's close to the ground, pulls the eye down and puts the focus on the tile. Moving things up, brings the eye up and away from the tile floor.
- 2). Hide the tile floors under area rugs, using colors that match the other accessories in the room. Brightly colored rugs add color to an otherwise dull or neutral-colored tile floor, while darker rugs hide tiles in an off-putting color that may not match the rest of your home, such as pink tiles.
- 3). Paint the walls in a complementary shade that works with the tile floor. A lighter color, like yellow or cream, tones down darker-colored tiles. If you have brightly colored tiles, then opt for a neutral shade on the walls, such as navy blue, which highlights the floor.
- 4). Hang curtains of lace or chiffon from the windows, which filters the light that comes through the windows and makes it appear warmer. The light bounces off the tile and reflects around the room, giving it a warm and inviting look.
- 5). Add one piece in the room that ties everything together, such as a painting. The piece should use the colors found in the tile, the area rugs and any furniture in the room. Use this larger piece as inspiration when buying other accessories for the room.
