Not a bad place to start for new "Dirty Pair" fans
On top of the usual dollops of action and mayhem, I smiled, once again, at the way the Dirty Pair franchise supplies fanservice for its audience with its tongue jammed firmly into its cheek. At one point in Project Eden Kei and Yuri are exploring what looks like an abandoned factory, and discover a disused washroom. So what do they do? Fill the tub and take a bath!
On the other hand, when they’re motivated to rise to the occasion, they do so with an aplomb that’s downright scary: in Conspiracy, Yuri chases a man on foot through a subway tunnel, most of a spaceport and right out onto the tarmac to keep him from escaping … and manages to acquire a very, very big gun along the way to boot. (All this, by the way, is interleaved with Kei fending off a Terminator-style android who proves obnoxiously hard to stop … at least until Kei really loses her temper.)
If this ends up being your first exposure to The Dirty Pair, it’s not a bad place to start; just watch out for Nolandia not being up to par with the others. The OVA collection is also a good way to get up to speed, and if either of those have tickled your fancy for more, by all means dive in and check out the original series on top of that.
