- 1). Pull out the rod on the backside of the grease gun. This is a long, usually steel rod that is located opposite the nozzle at the butt of the gun.
- 2). Lock the rod into position. When you pull out the rod, tilt it back and into the groove to keep it locked.
- 3). Unscrew the head assembly from the barrel by turning it counter-clockwise.
- 4). Insert the new grease cartridge. Push the cartridge down into the tube casing so that the side that releases the grease is face down in the tube casing.
- 5). Screw the head assembly back on to the barrel by turning it clockwise.
- 6). Unlock the rod from the notch and release it. The spring tension will ease the rod back into the proper place.
