- 1). Disassemble the Cornelius keg with a crescent wrench, being careful not to strip the posts or, on kegs with a pin-lock, not to bend the pins. Some home brew retail outlets sell a ratchet fitting that fits over the top of each post, preventing the need to struggle with awkward wrenches.
- 2). Leave the poppet valves in place as they are difficult to remove and replace. Clean around them with your cleaning solution.
- 3). Clean the short dip tube with a test tube brush. Boil the dip tube, two valve assemblies and the main O-ring for 15 minutes to sanitize them.
- 4). Clean out the inside of the keg using a carboy brush to scrub. Clean the valve holes with the test tube brush or a toothbrush. Clean the entire interior and exterior of the keg.
- 5). Rinse the interior and exterior of the keg thoroughly with clean water. Reassemble the keg.
