- 1). Vacuum the areas of the home where moths have been spotted. Carpet, furniture, rugs, along walls, inside cabinets and pantry, closets, and any small crevices must be vacuumed thoroughly. Use the attachment hose on your vacuum cleaner to get down into furniture and into small spaces. Moth larvae are very small and can get into even the tiniest of spaces.
- 2). Inspect all clothing and/or food items where you suspect a moth infestation. If you suspect pantry moths, remove all items from the pantry and inspect them for any traces of moths or eggs. Discard items that have been infested. Check your clothing thoroughly if you suspect clothing moths. Make sure to check in the folds of clothing and fabric. Launder infested clothing in hot water.
- 3). Apply pesticide spray to areas where you see the moths. Check the label on the pesticide to find out if it will kill moths and/or fabric pests. Spray the pesticide along baseboards, in corners, along the bottom of doors and in any other crevices nearby. Follow the instructions on the bottle for specific directions for applying the spray. Do not spray the pesticide directly onto clothing, bedding, or furniture.
- 4). Make your own moth pesticide if you prefer a more eco-friendly product. Fill small mesh bags with dried lavender or cedar chips. Lay the bags sporadically around the areas where you notice moths. The moths will be turned off by the scent and leave the area.
