How to Fish Along a River Bank

    • 1). Purchase an inflatable rubber two-man boat and a pump (see Resources below). Buy a 20-foot length of rope.

    • 2). Dress in old sneakers, shorts, and a T-shirt with a pocket in the front. Go to the river bank and inflate the boat with the pump. Tie the rope to the front of the boat. Put all your fishing supplies in the boat, including your tackle, an extra fishing rod and reel rig, and your bait.

    • 3). Wade into the water and tie the rope around your waist. Begin to walk parallel to the shore with the boat behind you. Walk upstream so that the boat will be in back of you all the time. This way it cannot interfere with your fishing.

    • 4). Cast to all the spots that look attractive to fish. Cast near boulders, rocks, logs and especially beneath low-hanging branches. Bass, perch, bluegill and trout will frequently be in spots such as these.

    • 5). Advance up the river, fishing the bank while in the river as long as the depth of the water allows you to do so. Once you have gone as far as you want then you can sit on the front of the boat and float back downstream. Stop at the spots that were the most productive to fish after you beach the boat on shore.
