- 1). Choose a crank bait lure body with a formed or attached lip on the front. Select the style and size of crank bait body based on the type of fishing you will be doing and personal preference.
- 2). Paint the crank bait lure body with enamel paint such as modeling paint. Use a small hobby or modeling brush to apply paint to the lure. Consider building layers of colors to imitate natural bait fish. Allow each layer or color to dry thoroughly.
- 3). Attach a screw eye to the nose, belly and tail of the crank bait lure. Thread the screw into the crank bait body using a pair of pliers if necessary. Use caution so that the screw eye is not inserted too deeply, stripping out the material of the crank bait.
- 4). Install a split ring onto the screw eye located on the belly and tail of the lure. Spread the split ring with split-ring pliers and thread the ring onto the screw eye.
- 5). Install a treble hook to the split ring on the belly and tail of the crank bait lure. Spread the split ring once again with split-ring pliers and thread the eye of a treble hook onto the ring. Repeat the process for the other split ring on the lure. Consider using a dressed treble hook at the tail of the lure.
