- 1). Press the release button on your reel and give yourself a few feet of slack to work with. Tie your sinkers to the line, leaving the appropriate amount of space for the bait you choose to use. Tie your hook to the end of your line.
- 2). Take the bait clip and find the end attachments. Your clip is a short piece of wire with a clasp at each end. Grab either end of the clip and open up the end, locking it to any loops or openings in the sinker. It should be tightly connected and should not come unhinged while you cast your line.
- 3). Grasp the opposite end of the bait clip and open it like you did the other side. Attach this end of the bait clip through the eye of your hook. Carefully release the hook so it does not catch your skin when it recoils. Now, your weight and hook should be very near one another.
- 4). Reel your line back in until the sinker touches the tip of the pole. Carefully attach your bait, whether it be fish, hotdog or something completely different, so it does not come off in flight.
- 5). Practice several short casts to get used to the new dynamics and weight dispersion the bait clip provides.
- 6). Cast as you normally would. The reduced drag from the sinker and bait being close should help your casts go farther.
