Hi, I'm Tom with Stout Landscape Design, and I'm going to show you how to plant a plant in a container. So, a few basic steps. You want to have, make sure you have a container that has a hole in the bottom for drainage. It's very important. Also you want to put some gravel on the bottom of the pot. You want to put about two inches of gravel. Then you want to put a layer of potting soil down here that's going to be the bottom of the container. So, I've got this little Ollie olive tree that we are going to transplant into here. It's going to, it's important to just scrape the roots up just a little bit just so that they don't keep traveling in a circle and they start to branch out. So, you want to go about an inch below the top of the container. Plant this thing in the middle. Then we'll put handfuls of soil around here. And get it about halfway full and then compact it. And then we are going to plant these little guys. These are called Senecio. Plant these, three of them around here and they'll fill up the base and they'll spill over as well. So, and these are going to be at the same level as the little olive tree here. This is a dwarf olive. It only gets about three feet by three feet. So, it stays pretty small. Just fill the rest of the soil in here. It's very important to make sure you compact the soil all the way around so that there's no air pockets. I just got a little bit of this organic matter. You can put mulch on top which is a good decorative organic type thing. Which you can get this mulch in bags at Home Depot or you can even use leaf debris from the trees around the neighborhood. Just put some leaves on the ground. It kind of dresses it up. Anyway, water it in. Could even put a little granular organic fertilizer in there and water that in as well. And that will help the plants thrive. So, this is how you plant a container. Thanks.
