- 1). Measure the width of a sleeve of a sweater that fits you properly, starting at the armhole and measuring to the shoulder. Measure the length of the sleeve from the shoulder seam to the cuff. Crochet a rectangle that is two times as wide as the armpit to shoulder measurement and ½ inch longer than the shoulder-to-cuff measurement.
- 2). Fold the sleeve rectangle in half with the back of the sleeve showing. Hand sew the sleeve closed with a needle and thread that matches the yarn. Use an overhand or overcast stitch to close the sleeve.
- 3). Turn the sweater body inside out. Line up the sleeve with the sweater body and attach the sleeve with a few pins to hold it in place. Hand sew the sleeve to the sweater body using the same overhand or overcast stitch used to close the sleeve.
