How to Make a Silk Screen

    • 1). Open the embroidery hoop. Pull the silk screen fabric tight across the inner section of the embroidery hoop. Close the hoop and screw both pieces tightly together.

    • 2). Sketch or print out your design on a piece of paper. Place the silk screen over your design. Trace the outline onto the fabric using your pencil. Retrace your the pencil lines with a felt marker or paintbrush.

    • 3). Use the glue to fill in all the portions of the silk screen that are not part of the design. This will prevent stray paint from being passed through the silk screen. Allow the glue to dry, according to the instructions on its container.

    • 4). Place the silk screen on top of your intended print area, fabric side down. Pour a line of paint along one side of the silk screen, on a portion blocked out by glue. Use your piece of cardboard to scrape the paint over the design, taking care to ensure even application.

    • 5). Remove the silk screen from your print area by lifting directly upwards. Allow the ink ample time to dry.
