- If you want to channel the spirit of a safari, try on an animal theme for your room. Zebra stripes are the perfect way to bring the wild side home, and they are easy to do either with commercial stencils or by free hand with a paintbrush. For a bold look, use black and white to create the look, or use dark chocolate brown and cream to make it more subtle. If painting the entire room seems overwhelming, just use the technique on one wall.
- For a classic, beautiful space, use rich gold and brown tones to create the look of sumptuous leather wrapping around your room. After painting a base coat, you can cover it with glaze in a complementary tone. While the glaze is wet, cover it with a sheet of plastic and press the plastic into the wall. Remove it, and allow the glaze to dry before repeating the process with a second glaze color. The crinkles in the plastic lend a leather feel to the finished wall.
- Bright, bold colors are key in tropical decorating, as anyone who has spent time in the Caribbean will tell you. Bring a bit of the islands into your bedroom by painting the walls in a turquoise ocean blue or a brilliant sunshine yellow. Finish off the look with crisp, clean white on the trim and accents.
- If your friends would describe you as one-of-a-kind, funky, different or kooky, then a bold, funky pattern will make your personal space as individual as you are. Select a strong pattern to make a big statement, such as stripes, polka dots, checkerboard or a harlequin pattern. Choose colors that play off of each other either by contrasting or complementing the other. If you desire a more subtle funky feel, then select two colors that are just variations of the same shade--the look will still be appealing. Paint either all of the walls or just one wall in your chosen pattern to jazz up your room.
