- 1). Cut out shapes from the sponges. Use the scissors to do this while the sponges are dry and flat. For older children, you can cut out letters of the alphabet or numbers. If your children are younger, you may want to simply do shapes like triangles, squares or flowers.
- 2). Cut a small hole in the sponge. Thread the waterproof ribbon through the hole. Plastic lacing like "gimp" is perfect for this. Be sure that you use a piece small enough that a small child will not be able to wrap it around his neck.
- 3). Thread the plastic toys on the ribbon. A set of plastic toddler keys is fun for this, or you can use large beads, colorful buttons, plastic water animals--anything that's big enough to not be a choking hazard.
- 4). Knot the ribbon securely. Tie it tightly, so that the toys are tied to the sponge. Once you put the sponge in the water with your child, toys will float beneath the surface, attached to the sponge.
- 5). Put your child in the tub, properly supervised and let him play with the sponges for lots of bath time fun.
