- 1). Double-click "Adobe Acrobat 8" to open it from your desktop, or click "Start" and "Programs" and select it from the list.
- 2). Select "Open" to browse for your document.
- 3). Click "Advanced" and "PDF Optimizer" to audit your PDF's components. This will tell you how much space your components are taking up in the file. Documents uploaded to the Web do not require an image to have such high resolution.
- 4). Click "Images" and reduce the "Dpi" to 150 for color images. This will preserve the compression of the document for the Web.
- 5). Choose "JPEG" if you want to compress smooth-toned color images, "ZIP" for flat-color images, or "JBIG2" for monochrome images.
- 6). Compress scanned documents by clicking "Advanced" and "PDF Optimizer."
- 7). Click "Optimized Scanned PDF" to compress page regions according to color content.
- 8). Click "Optimizing Images" to compress pages for documents that are not scanned.
