- 1). Measure the width and length of your countertop. Decide if you want to overhang the wood slightly past the edge of the cabinet to flush out with the door surface, or if you want to flush out with the countertop face. Transfer those measurements to the sheet of 3/4-inch plywood. Mark the sheet of plywood with the pencil and snap chalk lines across the face of the plywood to define the edges. Cut along the lines with the circular saw.
- 2). Install your sheet of plywood. Mount it to the cabinet base with wood screws. Screw them through the plywood into the cabinet base with the drill. Mark the cutout for your sink and use the jigsaw to cut out the sink's hole. Remove all of the drawers to expose the underside of the plywood.
- 3). Measure your finish material to fit on the top of the sheet of plywood and cut it with the circular saw. You can measure individual pieces to fit or you can cut the entire piece of wood as you did the plywood if you are using a wood sheet material rather than plank material. Mark the material from the underside for the sink's hole and cut it with the jigsaw.
- 4). Apply construction adhesive to the top side of the plywood and lay your finish material on top of the adhesive. Use the drill and wood screws to bore through the underside of the plywood sheet and up into the bottom side of the finish material to fasten the finish material securely in place. Attach screws every few inches for a solid finish countertop.
