How to Stop Paint from Wicking Under the Tape's Edge

    • 1). Run painters tape along the edge that you are trying to protect. Check every few inches to ensure that it is straight.

    • 2). Drag a scrape or the edge of your fingernail along the edge of the tape that is closest to where you will paint. This will press the tape down and remove any bubbles or air pockets along the side of the tape that might allow paint to seep through. Only press down on the edge, not the entire surface of the tape. The more adhered it is to the wall, the harder it will be to remove.

    • 3). Paint the wall or surface area as you normally would. As you get close to the tape area, be careful and try not to paint too thick. The more paint that is near the tape, the more likely it is to seep through.
