- 1). Draw a vertical line through the center of the paper or canvas you will be working on. Use a ruler to create a straight line. This will be the center axis that will help you mirror your drawing.
- 2). Sketch out half of the picture on the left half of the paper or canvas. For example, if you are drawing a person, draw half of his body. If you are drawing a mountain, draw one side of its sloping peak.
- 3). Circle important or pivotal points of your drawing, using a light pencil stroke. Use the ruler to measure the distance between these points and the center axis line. Use the ruler to draw a mirrored image of the important points on the right side of the center axis line.
- 4). Sketch in the right side of the picture, carefully relating back to the design created on the left side of the center axis line.
- 5). Erase any unnecessary lines or reference points.
- 6). Paint the symmetrically outlined picture, if desired.
