- Even if it's too icy or dry to actually build a snowman, kids can have fun creating a snowman-building kit for when the opportunity to build their own Frosty the Snowman finally arrives. Kids can make their own snowman scarves out of felt fabric, collect buttons from around the house, and paint small rocks black for creating facial features so that they are ready when the perfect snowman-building snowstorm finally comes. Add these items, plus a top hat and a toy carrot, to a box marked "Snowman Kit" and you'll be ready to build when the next blizzard hits.
- If the snow is too wet or fluffy, kids can make a snowman accessory from a very common household item: white glue. Kids stack circles of white glue on wax paper to form the base of the snowman, then add a top hat, buttons, twigs and googly eyes to complete the snowman. By adding a small paper clip curved into a V to the top of the snowman before the glue dries, the kids create a handle that can later be used to string the snowman on yarn or twine. Once dry, peel the snowman from the wax paper and string on the necklace. Kids can then wear their new snowman necklace wherever they go, even if it's too hot or cold for a snowman made of snow.
- Snowmen are basically just stacks of white circles, so white paper plates make the perfect items for crafting easy-to-make snowman decorations. Kids glue three paper plates together to make the shape of a snowman, then decorate it with markers, crayons, pom-poms, paper cutouts, and pipe cleaners. This craft is simple and safe for younger children, yet older children can have fun making more elaborate accessories for their snowmen.
- For smaller crafted snowmen that are soft to touch, kids can stack and glue white pom-poms in descending sizes. Once the glue has dried, kids can create a top hat from black felt and a black pom-pom, then use paint and yarn to decorate the rest of their fluffy snowman. These little guys are perfect for mantle decorations, or you can tie them to a string to create a cute homemade Christmas tree ornament.
