- 1). Turn off power to the bulb.
- 2). Let the bulb cool for several minutes until it is not hot to the touch.
- 3). Grip the bulb by the base rather than the glass; this will reduce the likelihood of breakage.
- 4). Unscrew the bulb from its fitting.
- 5). Check your local garbage disposal regulations. Some places do not allow items like CFLs to be put in the trash.
- 6). Dispose of the bulb in a manner allowed by your local regulations.
