- Top-fitting blinds should fit inside the window frame with the blind close to the window. The blind is installed on the top of the window frame and will hang down near the windowsill.
- Face-fitting blinds are installed on the outside face of the window frame or wall, several inches or almost a foot from the window, depending on how deep the sill is. The top rail for the face-fitting blinds is attached directly to the window frame or on the wall above the window frame.
- Venetian blinds typically are hung with two brackets -- one at each end of the blind. Only if the blind is very long is there a bracing bracket in the center. Wooden blinds almost always have a bracing bracket due to weight. Either can be hung top-fitting or face-fitting.
