How to Uninstall and Install Programs in Vista

    Uninstalling a Program

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu located on the desktop and click the "Control Panel."

    • 2). Click the "Programs" link and click the "Programs and Features" link. This launches a new window containing the programs and applications installed on your computer.

    • 3). Scroll through the list and click the program that you want to remove and click "Uninstall." If prompted, type your administrator password and click "OK" to remove the program from your computer.

    Installing a Program

    • 1). Insert the installation CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive on your computer and wait for the installation wizard to launch automatically. If the installation wizard does not launch, double-click "Computer" on the desktop and right-click the drive containing the CD. Click "Autoplay" to launch the installation wizard.

    • 2). Follow the guided instructions on the installation wizard to install the program. Follow the instructions carefully, as they vary with different programs. If prompted, restart your computer.

    • 3). Go to the website of the program that you want to install if you do not have an installation CD. Locate the program and download the installation file on your desktop.

    • 4). Double-click the installation file and click "Run" to launch the installation wizard. Follow the guided prompts on the installation wizard to install the program. Follow the instructions carefully, as they vary with different programs. If prompted, restart your computer.
