How to Install Auto Satellite Radio Receivers

    • 1). Mount the satellite radio antenna on the roof of your vehicle. The exact location is up to you, but you will get better reception if the antenna has at least three inches of metal around it. Attach the magnetic antenna to the roof with the wiring directed toward the back windshield. Peel the cover from the first three inches of wiring to reveal an adhesive that will assist in attaching the antenna to your vehicle's roof.

    • 2). Route the antenna's wire along the seam where your back window meets the roof of your vehicle. Continue to trace the window downward to the point where the trunk's opening begins.

    • 3). Open the trunk and run the antenna wire inside and under the weather stripping that lines the trunk's opening.

    • 4). Route the antenna wiring from the trunk to the inner cabin of the vehicle. Many vehicles offer a pathway to the inside of the cabin through the back seats. Move the rear seat forward to access the inside of the vehicle through the trunk space.

    • 5). Consult your vehicle's repair manual for instructions on lifting the vehicle's carpeting to conceal the wiring. Lift the carpeting and lay the wiring beneath it to the front of the vehicle. Replace the carpeting as described in your manual once the wiring has been routed to the dashboard area of your vehicle.

    • 6). Mount the satellite radio dock on the dashboard. The location of the dock varies. Choose a location that makes the satellite radio receiver accessible to the driver while avoiding locations that would impede your vision while driving. Drill two openings in the dashboard that match the distance of the holes on the mount. Align the mount openings with the new holes and insert the satellite receiver's fasteners.

    • 7). Plug the power supply cable into the power input on the back of the satellite radio receiver. Insert the cigarette lighter lead into the vehicle's cigarette lighter for power.

    • 8). Plug the signal cable into the outlet on the side of the receiver. Plug the signal cable lead into the vehicle's stereo 3.5 mm AUX jack. For a vehicle that is not equipped with an AUX input, remove the stereo and connect the signal cable via RCA adapter to the RCA inputs at the rear of the stereo. Consult your vehicle repair manual for instructions on stereo removal specific to your vehicle's make and model.

    • 9). Place the satellite radio receiver onto the dock and tune the vehicle's stereo to "AUX" mode. Contact the satellite service provider to activate the satellite radio service.
