Company Background

Better Life began in 2007 when two long-time friends wanted to create cleaning products that were safe enough to use around their toddlers. Their mission was to create cleaning products that were better than any others on the market and to set the standard for safety.

Better Life boasts a wide range of natural-based cleaning products for home, auto, nursery, and pet care that are available in standard and bulk sizes. Innovative cleaning kits, such as the "Housewarming" and "New Baby Essentials" kits, are also available. All products are cruelty-free, plant-derived, and free of unwanted artificial dyes, fragrances, etc. For more information about products and the company, visit the Better Life website.

Product Effectiveness

The product label points out that Einshine can not only clean stainless steel and other metal surfaces, such as chrome, nickel, and titanium, but also protects surfaces by leaving behind a "protective barrier system," so I was very excited to give it a try!

Einshine worked well on my stainless steel appliances without leaving any streaking and definitely left a brilliant shine. I did, however, find that I needed to work a little to get the surface clean without any streaking. The trick was to flip my microfiber cloth over after cleaning to use the dry side to buff and polish the surface dry. Once I got that technique down it worked like a charm!

If you notice streaking, the manufacturer notes that it is most likely due to residue build up from past cleaners that may have contained mineral oils and silicones. The solution the company suggests is start fresh by cleaning the surface with its Even The Kitchen Sink cleansing scrubber. Another idea I suggest is to clean the surface using a homemade cream cleanser and follow it with a vinegar-water spray. Then give the Einshine cleaner a try.

Health & Safety

This non-toxic product contains mostly natural, plant-based ingredients and is free of unwanted chemicals like synthetic dyes, artificial fragrances, petroleum-derived ingredients, sulfates, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and silicones. However, it does have two synthetic ingredients: Acrylates copolymer, which is a product stabilizer used at less than 0.09%, and Methylisothiazolinone, a preservative used at less than 0.01%.

According to the Environmental Working Group's Guide to Healthy Cleaning, Methylisothiazolinone has some concerns when used in large and acute quantities as it is suspected of being a neurotoxin and skin sensitizer. However, as noted on the product label, only a small amount of it is used (less than 0.01%). Nevertheless, it would be great if the manufacturer could find an alternative.

No first-aid measures are listed on the product label; however, the label does warn to keep the product out of reach of children and not to ingest it. The MSDS is not available on the company website.

Environmental Notes

This non-toxic, biodegradable product is safe for waterways and marine life according to the manufacturer.

Misc. Notes

I really enjoyed the light scent of this product, which is made with all natural essential oils.

The fact you can get this product in a 5-gallon size is a bonus for businesses out there seeking earth friendly cleaning solutions.

Final Thoughts

This effective product is a fantastic eco-friendly alternative to harsh stainless steel products. Because of the preservative, I couldn't give it a full five stars; however, all of the other ingredients are very green, so I'd recommend giving it a try!
