How to Get Rid of Brush Marks When Painting a Fiberglass Door

    • 1). Remove the weatherstripping and clean the door with soap and water before starting. Dry the door completely with a clean cloth.

    • 2). Apply a latex primer to the fiberglass door the same color as your paint. Allow it to dry overnight. The primer helps prevent the fiberglass from soaking up the paint and showing brush marks.

    • 3). Paint the door using acrylic paint. Apply a thin coat of paint and allow it to dry completely. When dried, it should not be tacky to the touch.

    • 4). Apply a second coat of the acrylic paint. Allow the door to dry or cure for approximately 10 days.

    • 5). Sand the fiberglass door with a hand-held sander with 120-grit aluminum oxide paper if paint brush marks are present. Lightly run the sander over the marks. When dust appears, the sander is working.
