- 1). Place the aluminum outside or in a ventilated area. Paint strippers are caustic and give off a foul odor that could give you a headache. Wear protective gloves and a ventilation mask to protect yourself from the chemical.
- 2). Spread a liberal amount of stripper onto the painted surface of the aluminum with a paintbrush. Make sure the stripper you use is approved for use on aluminum.
- 3). Wait until you see the paint on the surface peeling up. This time frame will vary depending on the type of paint, the thickness of the paint and the brand of stripper you use.
- 4). Wipe the paint and stripper from the surface with cotton rags. If the stripper does not remove all of the paint, apply new stripper to the surface, wait for the remaining amount of paint to peel and then wipe it off.
