- 1). Sketch the framework of the duck using pencil. Do this by drawing a large horizontally stretched oval in the center of your page. Draw a small circle hovering above the top left side of the large oval. Draw a straight vertical line down from the small circle to the large oval. Draw another straight vertical line down from the middle of the bottom side of the large oval. These lines will remind you later where the neck and feet should be. You have now crated the framework for the duck by sketching the rough outline of its body, neck, head and feet.
- 2). Draw a left-facing bill off the head (the small circle) of your duck using pencil. Do this by drawing a shape similar to that of a chili pepper, with the larger stem-end of the chili attached to the duck's head. Add the bottom part of the beak by drawing a line underneath the chili shape that follows the exact curve of the bottom of the chili shape. The bill should now look like a closed beak.
- 3). Complete the body of the cartoon duck by sketching a wing and completing the neck using pencil. The wing should start at the back of the neck, swoop down and cut back across the duck's body (the large oval) in a leaf-like shape. Finish the neck by drawing two lines, one on each side of the initial neckline you sketched in Step 1.
- 4). Sketch the feet of the duck using pencil. Do this by drawing a thin leg and left-facing foot. To make the foot appear webbed, draw it with three points at the end. Draw the other leg and foot by sketching a line above the first leg and foot that mirrors it exactly. The second leg and foot now appear to be blocked from sight slightly by the first foot and leg.
- 5). Draw an eye on your duck using pencil. The eye can be a simple circle with a dot for a pupil. You can add more detail, such as an eyelid or eyelashes if you want to give your duck more personality.
- 6). Trace over your duck's shape with a thick black marker. Only trace onto the lines that are meant to be seen. For example, do not trace over the initial neck or feet lines since those were only guides for what would later become the real neck and feet.
- 7). Erase any pencil lines that are not meant to be seen. These should include the initial neck and feet lines from Step 1 and any lines that have been overlapped by another object.
- 8). Color inside the duck's body with a yellow marker or crayon. Stay within the outline of the duck, and take care when filling the face in that you don't get any yellow in the duck's eye. Color the duck's bill a darker shade of yellow if you wish it to stand out more.
