How to Fix Error 80070424 in Windows Vista 64-Bit

    Determine Windows Version

    • 1). Click "Start" and select "Run." Alternatively, you may select "Start Search."

    • 2). Type "msinfo32.exe" into the text box and press "Enter" or click "OK." This will open the System Information window.

    • 3). Highlight "System Summary" and locate the entry for "System Type." The value "x86-based PC" is for the 32-bit version of Windows. The value "x64-based PC" is for the 64-bit version of Windows.

    Install Windows Update Service

    • 1). Click the appropriate TrustedInstaller file for your version of Windows (see Resources).

    • 2). Choose "Save File" and select "Desktop." Click the "Save."

    • 3). Double-click "windowsupdateagent20-x86.exe" or "windowsupdateagent30-ia64.exe" to install the Windows Update Agent.

    • 4). Reboot your computer, if prompted, after completing the installation.

    Reset Windows Update Components

    • 1). Go to the Microsoft Web page for knowledge base article 971058.

    • 2). Scroll down and click the "Fix-It" button. Click the "Run" button when the File Download dialog box appears on the screen.

    • 3). Select "Default" for the mode and then follow the instructions in the Fix it wizard. Restart your system, if prompted, to complete the process.
